beachy father's day

father's day is coming up and masculine cards are always hard for me. i lean heavily towards pink, gold, glitter and sequins. and while my husband can appreciate a sequin or two, or even a unicorn card, most of the guys in my family would appreciate something a little more masculine.

for my dad's father's day card, i went with something a little beachy and a little bit muted. he loves sun, the beach and warm colors. and don't worry, he never reads my blog so this isn't a spoiler.

i started by creating a simple background with zig clean color real brush markers and a bit of water. light blue for sky and beige for sand. i wanted it to be subtle but of course now that everything is glued down, i really wish i had used more blue...

next i die cut the adorable little houses from essentials by ellen designer dies, home & hearth set from patterned paper to create my beach houses. my "surfboards" are the inside of a petal from essentials by ellen designer dies, wild garden.

i added a sentiment from mama elephant and popped it up with some foam adhesive. and ta-da!

gold rings

i've been wanting to create a card the had a slightly modern, streamlined feel and i think i might have only succeed slightly (hee hee). i used a rainbow die to create concentric rings in gold and my favorite distress ink colors but i couldn't resist adding some watercolor splatter and sequins too.

i die cut the rainbow twice, once from gold foil paper and once from watercolor paper. i inked the watercolor pieces with my ink blending tool and my favorite distress ink shades, abandoned coral, cracked pistachio & shaded lilac. i'm afraid my pictures don't really give the colors or the gold paper justice, they are so pretty in real life.

i used a little more cracked pistachio ink to create a little splatter and of course i added some sequins. and finally a sentiment from one of my favorite essentials by ellen sets, love you so.

thanks for looking!

grad party pages

my sweet husband graduated this spring and after a bit of arm twisting, i convinced him that having a grad party would be fun. not surprisingly, i was right and i had to document it!

i wanted a black, white & gold palette because it's kinda my jam right now so i combined 6x6 papers from studio calico's brighton pier, bazzill's kraft & foil collection and tim holtz's kraft core metallic collection. then i added all my 3x3 prints on top but i made them crooked on purpose because i knew they were probably going to be anyway :)

for my 2nd page i started with a piece of ledger paper i've had forever and added the pics that couldn't be cropped to 3x3s. i made my title with pebbles gold letter stickers and the congrats die cut from the essentials by ellen zipper panel set.

i finish the page with a few bokeh dot stamps and gold sequins because i'm a sequin addict. thanks for looking!

watercolor magnolia

well its june and i'm still completely obsessed with watercoloring, especially with distress inks. i'm still gluing sequins to everything but i'm proud to say that i've expanded my stamp repertoire to include another beautiful essentials by ellen set, mondo magnolia.
for this card i embossed the magnolia in super fine white. then i used abandoned coral, picked raspberry and shaded lilac distress inks to watercolor over the image. and of course i added a bunch of marshmallow sequins after i mounted my watercolored panel to an A2 card (perhaps too many sequins, hee hee).
