friday creative: holiday edition #8

with christmas just around the corner, today's project is multi-tasking! you can take a simple piece of chipboard & a photo and create an ornament, a gift tag, a napkin ring, a necklace, garland...anything you want!
-chipboard (or if you don't have easy access to chipboard, try plain ol'cardboard or tagboard, like a cereal box)
-paper trimmer (or craft knife & straight edge)
-hole punch
-twine or ribbon
-optional: eyelets & sandpaper

how to:
-cut chipboard to size of photo and adhere photo to chipboard with gluestick.
-punch holes as desired (to makes into an ornament or tag) and add eyelets if desired.
-sand edges as desired.
-now add any extras! like for my ornament i add a chipboard snowflake above my photo and a little jingle bell below, all held together with my new favorite red baker's twine.
-cute and easy!

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #7

today's friday creative started out as a cute little place card idea from grandiflora in lynden that i of course had to make into a photo holder because, say it with me, i'm bored with frames! by the way local people, if you haven't been to grandiflora, run over right now because they have wonderful home decor stuff and they staff is so
-jingle bell

how to:
-tie a little knot of ribbon around the top of your bell and push to the end so the bell will sit correctly when turned upside down.
-turn your jingle bell upside down and insert photo. the larger your jingle bell, the larger the photo it can support. i used a 30mm bell and it worked perfectly with a wallet sized photo.
-that's it!

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #6

today's friday creative is one of my most favorite photo decor projects and i have given them as gifts to many friends & family. (i have it on good authority that they loved them!) they are super easy to make and they look adorable grouped together (i prefer threes), photo blocks!supplies:
-wooden cubes or toy blocks (look for cubes at your local craft store and specifically look for kaiser craft brand)
-glue stick (i recommend pioneer brand)
-sand paper
-cutting tools (paper trimmer or craft knife)

how to:
-crop photos to fit cube/block (and remember to measure twice and cut once).
-adhere to cube/block with glue stick and sand edges as desired.

happy friday!

p.s. another cute thing to make with alphabet blocks are little photo holders with the wire holders we made here.

friday creative: holiday edition #5

can you believe it's week 5 of our holiday friday creatives already? and now that we've had a lovely thanksgiving, i feel like i can start decorating for christmas! so i've preempted the project i had originally planned for today to bring you this wonderful project from the latest issue of the lovely country living magazine...a photo wreath. i just fell in love with this idea! i think it is a great idea for the holidays and a fabulous gift idea too!supplies:
-wreath form (they come in wire or craft board...i recommend the craft board if you can find it because it's easier to adhere photos to the flat surface)
-strong liquid adhesive (like Quick Grip or Zip Dry)
how to:
-first make copies of any photos that are precious originals. i used some copies of special older photos of my family and some of my favorite recent holiday photos.
-arrange photos on wreath form. once you're happy with the look, adhere with a small amount of adhesive (a small amount so photos don't warp).
-tie ribbon in a bow or knot as desired and adhere to the back of the wreath form.
-hang and enjoy!

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #4

today's project is a holiday tradition in our house, photo ornaments! it is a super fun idea from the treasury girls a few years ago and we add to our collection each year. i've also made whole sets to give as
-craft glass ornaments
-double-sided adhesive & adhesive dots (like Glue Dots)
-photos (printed on lighter weight paper and sized to fit inside ornament, mine are 1x1.5)

how to:
-adhere photos (or photo and message) back to back with ribbon between.
-remove top of ornament, roll photos gently and insert into ornament.
-use the end of paintbrush (or chopstick, pencil, etc) to unroll the photo inside the ornament, making sure to keep the end ribbon outside the ornament.
-adhere the ribbon to the top, outside of the ornament with an adhesive dot and trim off excess ribbon. Replace the metal top.
-ta-da! isn't it cute?!
happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #3

it's week 3 of our holiday projects and i hope you're having as much fun as i am! this week's project is a really fun and easy photo decor project inspired by martha stewart that can start with holiday photos and cards but easily stay up all year, a photo shutter! they make a great spot for not just photos but love notes, artwork, invitations, even mail. look how cute...
-shutters (local bellingham girls, look for sets to "recycle" at the re-store)
-assorted clips
-photos & notes

how to:
-if shutter have adjustable louvers, lock them by "up" with a small nail through the tilt bar and frame.
-paint and sand as desired.
-tuck photos & cards in shutters and secure with clips.
-wouldn't this make an adorable gift? and you could also secure the shutters to the wall in an entryway or kitchen for an organization center, so cute!

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #2

this is our second installment in the holiday editions of friday creative and it is also the biy (buy it yourself) project i promised you last week. when i saw this product by kikkerland, i totally fell in love and i think it would make a great holiday gift for a lot of people on santa's list (especially for only $10)...the photoclip spider.
-photoclip spider*
-photos, cards & other memorabilia

how to:
-it's comes fully assembled so just add photos & hang!

*kikkerland makes some other really cool photo products, you can check them out and purchase them here. and for you local ladies (bellingham), i picked my photoclip spider up at cresswell boggs, a super cute store downtown.

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #1

today's friday creative is our first holiday edition, the first of many great photo gifts! it's a tartlet tin photo holder...
-small tartlet tin
-medium gauge wire like 18
-a drill (with a bit to match the thickness of the wire you're using)
-wire cutters
-wine cork
-knife & cutting board

how to:
-wrap wire around a marker/pen one and half times to make circle for photo holder.
-choose desired height of photo holder, adding the depth of tartlet tin, and snip wire with wire cutters.
-drill holes in tartlet tin and insert wire.
-trim cork so one long edge is flat (and more as necessary to fit the size of your tartlet tin). Then from underneath, push the wine cork onto the exposed wire (this will steady it).
-add a photo and then get ready because you will want to make bunches of these as holiday gifts!

happy friday!

p.s. just fyi, for those of you feeling a little overwhelmed by the diy this week, don't worry because next week is very biy (buy-it-yourself)!

friday creative

today's project is another fast & fun one, another funky twist on a traditional frame...a tin case
-tin case*
-adhesive (temporary if you want to be able to change photos out)
-photos (big enough that you can trim down to fit in case because most likely your case will be an odd size)
-paper trimmer (to crop down photos)

how to:
*so here's the story on the tin case...the cases are really made for storage of little crafting goodies and come with small round containers inside. i happen to have a bunch of empty cases around my house because i've used the little containers for other projects like party favors & such but check out vintage shops & ebay for empty cases like mine. or purchase new ones online. anyway...
-crop photos to fit inside case (and remember measure twice & cut once).
-adhere photos to case and ta-da! cute & funky right?

happy friday!

friday creative

along with today's project, i'm letting you all know that i might have a problem...i might have a bit of a "thing" for hangers. this is after all, my second friday creative using hangers and i'm just letting you know right here and now, i'm not promising you it will be my last. now that's out in the open, on to our project! i can't remember exactly where cute idea came from but i had this cute vintage metal hanger in my studio begging for attention, seriously begging so here's what happened...a metal hanger photo holder! supplies:
-metal hanger
-clothespins (plain or decorative)
-metal ruler
-strong magnets
-photos & memorabilia

how to:
-use the clothespins to hold photos directly on the hanger and hang on the wall.
-or use the clothespins to hold a metal ruler on the hanger and use strong magnets to place photos and memorabilia along the ruler. cute right?!

happy friday!
