watercolor + foil

i finally finished the card i started 5 days ago! i'm in a little bit of a creative funk, i can't quite get my ideas to come to life.

but i couldn't let this one go. i really wanted to do something with hot pink, navy and gold. so here's the final version:
-on a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 bristol panel, i created a really loose distress ink watercolor background (well i actually made like 6 before i was happy).
-on my dry background i stamped and embossed "love". for foiling over embossing, i have found that super fine powder works the best and my fav is stampendous.
-then i cut a piece of gold transfer foil to fit my "love" and ran it through my laminator.
-i sprinkled a little gold embossing powder right onto my panel and heated it from below (so the air wouldn't blow it around). once melted the powder stays put and creates a fun, messy metallic look.
-to finish my card i added a washi tape strip, some gold sequins and some gold thread.
thanks for stopping by!

jar of hearts

i love jars! i use them as storage, as glasses, as vases, as gift "bags"...the list could go on but the point is jar stamps have my heart too. and with valentine's day coming up, jars and hearts just make sense.
-i started with a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 bristol panel. on my bristol, i created a very loose watercolor background with multiple shades of distress ink. to do this, i applied some clean water to my paper and then one color of ink at a time. adding a little more of each color once the once the first layer was dry.
-to my dry background, i stamped my sentiment by combining the "sending" from mama elephant's happy everything set and the "love" from essentials by ellen love you so set. then i added a jar. my jar is an old set from my stash but there are lots of cute options still available at ellen hutson. i guess jars are as cool as i think they are.
-i filled my jar by creating little dimensional perfect pearl hearts. my hearts are a little wonky, clearly i need practice, but at least they are recognizable.
-then i punched little holes at the top of my jar, threaded a twine through and tied a bow.

-finally i added a little black splatter with distress paint. the paint makes the splatter a really strong black (i learned that from the awesome julie ebersole).
have a great day!
