making merry: little bear cord keeper

I'm always looking for cute little things to give as stocking stuffers (stockings are one of my most favorite parts of Christmas) and I've been seeing lots of cute and colorful little cord keepers around. Naturally I decided I could make something with my crafty stash...I just love to DIY! And this cute little guy is what I came up with:
Here's how I did it...

To give the white felt a little more stability, give one side a few coats of gesso, letting each coat dry before applying the next.
Die cut two bears, flipping the felt between cuts so the gesso side will be on the inside when you place the two bears together. Does that make sense?

For the bear that will be the back, apply another coat of gesso to seal the arms.

Stamp the face by masking edges of the felt bear so just the little eyes, nose & mouth stamp. I used Stazon ink.

Die cut one pink heart for the front bear and stitch to the little bear paws with black thread to look like claws.
Apply another coat of gesso to the back to help secure the heart & arms.
Place the bears together, gesso sides to the inside and stitch together at ears with white thread.
Add a little felt glue to head area to secure.

Then add velcro pieces inside in the bottom of the tummy area. I used sticky felt pieces but added a little extra felt glue to make it sturdier. And I placed the "toothy" side of the velcro on the top bear because I think that will make it easier to open.
And ta-da! Isn't he cute?
Have a great day!

Feeling Grateful & EH Enabler Alert!

Happy Thanksgiving sweet bloggy friends and a Happy Thursday too! I have to preemptively apologize for the sappy things I'm about to say, feel free to scroll down for EH Black Friday fun! LOL!

To anyone still reading (*grin*), I just want to say thank you! I feel so grateful to be part of this loving, crafty community. Some time ago, I was incredibly blessed to live in Bellingham, work at a papercrafting store and be a TOM Girl for a long time. After that ended, I just thought that part of my life was over. We moved south for my husband to attend UW and I took a job outside of crafting. Working that job was a long, sad year for me. Soemthing was missing from my life but I couldn't quite figure it out. Then I met Ellen Hutson (and Erica & Shirley) and everything got better, got brighter. (I love you guys!)

The last 4-1/2 years have brought so many blessings into my life, and one of the biggest is my job at Ellen Hutson LLC. I get to go to work everyday with my friends. I get to speak to the best customers, talking about creative products I love and hearing about their awesome projects. I am privileged to be part of the EH design team with some truly talented ladies. And I've met (though sometimes not yet in real life), the best crafty people! Thank you for enriching my life, blessing me with friendship and making me happy.

Ok, I'm a little teary but I think I'm done. LOL! On to the Ellen Hutson 10th Anniversary!!!
I am seriously so excited for tomorrow! EH is celebrating 10 years with our biggest sale of the year & ever!!! A few sweet customers have told us we should stay home on Friday and rest, but let me tell you!!! Friday is going to be so fun at the EH warehouse! We are wearing our comfy clothes, getting Starbucks (& probably pizza), rocking out to Christmas music and trying to get as many orders shipped out as humanly possible! It's going to be a party!!!

Make sure to take advantage of the anniversary savings (and enter our mega giveaway here) and in case you need any help shopping...I know that's silly, who needs help shopping?!...but just in case, I made you a list of my current favorites (with a few sneak peeks of things I've been working on)!
1. Clean Color Markers: I adore these because I feel like they are the perfect medium to transition from all messy, loose watercolored backgrounds & shapes, to a more detailed & precise type of coloring. My coloring is getting so much better (check out that foxy little sneak peek).

2. Happy Card Die: I think this is one of the coolest new dies! Concord & 9th are so cool! The frame die has a "spot" to add coordinating "happy" word or a bouquet and it makes really cool interactive cards. I have a bunch of fun projects to show you soon using it but the pink & gold above is a little sneak. AND there are also add-on dies to use with the frame, Mistletoe and Kind.

3. All Inside Stamp & Die: This set is one of my very favorites!!! The adorable outline words mix & match with so many other sentiments (one of my favorite things to do) and that adorable bear melts my heart! Plus Mr. Bear is interactive (the die cuts his arms) and he is the perfect size for some holiday projects like ornaments & cord keepers (see sneak above of the project coming to my blog soon).

Hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend! Big hugs to you all!

sweet cookie wishes

One of my favorite things besides crafting is baking (though I have been taking a bit of a break thanks to some food allergies). And a huge part of the holidays for me is making sweet treats! Carly loves cookies! And sharing cookies of course.

Today I "baked" some die cut cookies with Nuvo frosting and Prills sprinkles...
To create this card, start by die cutting a stitched rectangle from white cardstock.
On the white cardstock, stamp plate and color. I used Copic Mint Green BG13.
Die cut hearts from cream cardstock and apply Nuvo. I like to place a loop of painter's tape on an acrylic block, stick my die cuts to it and apply the Nuvo. It makes it easy, hands free and then I can just set it aside to dry. If I leave them on my craft mat, I always smudge them.
To the wet Nuvo, apply some Prills as sprinkles.

These little heart "cookies" make a great Christmas or Valentine's card and this Nuvo "frosting" looks great on other dies too.
Adhere rectangle to a card front with foam adhesive. So easy right?!

Have a sweet day!

merry & bright lights with nuvo

I have a serious crush on the Nuvo Drops! I love the dimension they add to cards and they come in bright colors and glitter (and I love glitter)!

This card uses Nuvo Crystal and Glitter Drops and it was super easy!
To create this card, start by stamping the string or just draw one with a pen.
Add light bulbs and sentiment.

Fill bulbs with a thin layer of glossy red Nuvo Drops. And the card would be super cute with just the glossy red but I really like a little sparkle.
Apply red glitter Nuvo Drops over the top.
Swirl glossy red and glitter with a small pick like a toothpick. Including the two colors give the lightbulbs even more dimension and a little realism.
Easy right? The hardest part of this card is waiting for the Nuvo to dry, LOL! And when dry the Nuvo stays very dimensional, bright & shiny. I love it!

Thanks for coming by!
