batty for you

halloween is just a few days away and we've got big plans...no wait, that's right we are super boring and we don't! haha! we do have a couple of fun halloween traditions like having a "scary movie night". sometimes scary movie night is a big party and sometimes it's quiet night with just the two of us. this year it will just be the two of us but i still want it to be a "big spread" and i thought i would make shaun a quick card (don't worry, he doesn't read my blog much).
-i started with a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 piece of watercolor paper and watercolored a quick background with distress ink peacock feathers. when it was dry, i added some splatter in the same color. then i stamped a few stars from the essentials by ellen got candy set. i stamped "batty" with the mama elephant bella letters and "for you" from the mama elephant happy everything set.

-with my background ready, i stamped the super cute bats from the essentials by ellen got candy set in versafine onyx black and die cut them with the coordinating set.

-next i stamped the little heart from the lawn fawn milk & cookies set in versafine onyx black and watercolored the inside with distress ink abandoned coral. then i die cut it with the coordinating die and gave it a good coat of glossy accents.

-when my glossy accents was dry, i foam mounted my bats & heart to my background and then the whole thing to a solar white card.

thanks for stopping by!

pinterest inspiration + autumn watercolor

i know i am most definitely not alone in my love of pinterest and i'm also certainly not the only one spending tons of time (maybe too much...hee,hee) finding yummy recipes, home decor ideas and crafty inspiration too. i saw this amazing piece of art by lana gordon rast on pinterest and i was so delighted! i couldn't wait to create a watercolor card with the same beautiful colors!
find it here
here's what i came up with...
-i started with a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 piece of watercolor paper and on it i stamped the magnolia from the essentials by ellen clear stamp mondo magnolia in versafine oynx.

-i started at the bottom of the flower with distress ink abandoned coral and blended in spiced marmalade ink as i moved up. when my first layer dried, i added more ink to the edges.

-next i watercolored the background with a very light wash of distress ink cracked pistachio and peacock feathers.

-when the all of the ink was dry i added glossy accents to the flower center.

-then when the glossy accents was dry, i decided it needed a little faux stitching so i used the straight stitching die from the new my favorite things basic stitch lines die set across the top.

-i finished with a sentiment from the essentials by ellen clear stamps hello gorgeous set and some clear sequins. and i adhered the panel to a folded solar white card.

happy friday!

holiday II essentials by ellen release hop!

it's finally here and i'm so excited!!! welcome to the holiday II essentials by ellen release hop! i'm thrilled to be showing off the fabulous new essentials by ellen clear stamps, santa's flight and the adorable christmas scribbles with it's new coordinating die.

first up, santa's flight:

first i stamped the "to" stamp in versafine onyx black on bazzill sugar wafer cardstock. i stamped and embossed the seal in white. i die cut a few hearts from red hots bazzill with the essentials by ellen designer dies home & hearth set. i gave them a good coat of clear wink of stella, folded them in half and adhered them to the card only in the middle. i added a few little snowflakes and twine.

next is christmas scribbles! you might recognize the christmas scribbles stamp set, you might even be lucky enough to have it from last year's release. and thanks to this holiday II release, there are now coordinating dies!

on a 2-1/2 x 4 piece of solar white, i stamped the gifts and twinkly snowflakes in versafine smokey gray. i performed a little stamp surgery on my sentiment to cut it into 2 pieces and then i stamped it with versafine onyx black. i stamped the gifts and tree in versafine onyx black and watercolored them with distress inks squeezed lemonade, mowed lawn, picked raspberry and peacock feathers. when the inks were dry, i die cut them with the coordinating dies. i machine stitched the panel and adhere it to a 3-1/2 x 5 card. finally i foam mounted my watercolored die cuts to my card.
