friday creative

today's friday creative is a super quick, easy & quirky idea! a vintage record "frame"...

-record (check out thrift store for awesome deals)
-round template (get creative, a plate, cup, etc.)

how to:
-crop your photo into a circle of desired size using your template (that makes it sound complicated...just trace your cup or plate, etc. on your photo and cut out). i kept my photo to just about the same size as the original record label but you could absolutely go bigger.
-adhere your photo to your record with your favorite adhesive.
-and ta-da! now display your cute & funky new "frame" on a shelf, in a shadowbox or add a bracket/hook to the back and hang on the wall.

happy friday!

p.s. thanks to the boregos for letting me use their photos! aren't they cuties?!

friday creative giveaway

do you read country living magazine? you should, it's awesome. this month's issue has a fab article from photographer monica rich kosann about displaying the photos you love and one of her ideas i love is to use a tray to create a vignette.

i'm especially in love with silverplate trays (you'll be seeing a bunch if you come see me at the farm chicks show), and little vignettes are popping up around my house. this is one i'm starting for my kitchen...

...but i think i'll have to pick a different tray because i'm going to give this one to you! just leave a comment here before monday and i'll draw a name to win this beautiful silverplate tray!

happy friday!

friday creative

today is DIY photo canvas day in honor of treasury of memories' spring open house! a little note...treasury's open house is tonight but you can still RSVP and local ladies, you totally want to go because there are going to be great kits and specials on canvas! learn more here! ok, on to the photo canvas...why make it yourself? it's super easy and about a quarter (or less) of the price. and the best part, it's a beautiful way to display your photos!

-strong liquid adhesive (i like quick grip)
-sand paper (optional)
-paper trimmer

how to:
-trim photo if necessary to fit canvas and sand edges if desired.
-clean canvas with a damp cloth and let dry. (or if you want painted edges, paint and let dry.)
-on the back side of photo, place a thin line of adhesive close to the edge.
-place photo on canvas and press down, making sure to get a good "seal".
-now display your beautiful new canvas on the wall, on a shelf or tray. if your canvas is thick enough, it will stand by itself and if not, just lean it gently on other photo decor items (like a jar or frame).

happy friday!

friday creative

so today's project is one of my first sewing projects and i'm so proud! really all i had to do was sew in a straight line but still, i actually used my sewing machine unsupervised! i had a lot of fun making my little (well big) frame and in fact i'm thinking about making more...
-grosgrain ribbon
-crocheted ribbon
-sewing machine
-staple gun
-assorted clips

how to:
-start by painting your frame and setting it aside to dry. when it's dry, sand it as desired.
-cut your grosgrain ribbon in lengths twice as long as the width of your frame. for example, my frame is 24 inches wide so i cut my ribbon 48 inches long (that way you have even ribbon to ruffle).
-next i stitched 3 rows of basting stitches close to each other along the top of the left edge of each piece of ribbon, making sure to leave a thread tail on each row of stitching.
-then take the top thread/bobbin thread and pull very gently to gather the ribbon into a ruffle.
-when you have all your ruffles made, hand or machine stitch your crocheted ribbon on top.
-place your ribbon in your frame, pull to edge and staple securely.
-now you get to make fun clips! cover clothespins with patterned paper, gluestick and sandpaper works great for this. add old bingo pieces and buttons to paperclips with strong liquid adhesive like quick grip. be creative and have fun!
happy friday!

friday creative

so today's friday creative is inspired by a new skill i'm attempting to acquire, sewing! so far my sewing skills are terrible but i figure at least my studio can reflect my interest. makes sense right? plus i saw one of today's adorable ideas here on junkfest's blog and i happened to have a vintage skirt marker waiting for some attention...thanks junkfest!

-vintage pattern
-vintage skirt marker

frame how to:
-cut cardstock to fit your frame.
-take a piece of the vintage pattern and lay over cardstock, leaving enough to fold over and adhere on back.
-add photo and put in frame.
-easy right?

skirt marker how to:
-if you thought the frame was simple...just adjust the skirt marker to the desired height and then adhere the photo to the back of the skirt marker (glue dots are great for this) and then adhere the front of the skirt marker to the photo.

and because i was having fun in my studio (i like organizing), i also made book page & pattern cones and put them in a vintage cruet castor. then i filled the cones with some of my crafty goodies.

happy friday!
