pretty burlap

ever since i saw this amazing tag by tim holtz, i've been dying to try prettying up some burlap! here's the result:

-i started by die cutting a rectangle of burlap and securing my stencil over it. i didn't have the right color of distress ink spray stain so i mixed my own...a little distress reinker, water & a mini mister. then i misted lightly over my stencil, patted it lightly with paper towel and removed my stencil.
-while my burlap was drying, i started crafting my embellishments. first i colored some silver jingle bells red by putting my bell on the end of a wooden skewer and applying a drop or two of alcohol ink. i set the bells on my craft mat to dry.
-to create my holly, i die cut leaves from silver glitter paper. then i colored them green with more alcohol ink. can you tell i really love alcohol ink? but seriously it is good for so many things!
-then i die cut a small stitched tag from solar white cardstock. to create my multi-colored sentiment i inked my "bright" stamp with distress ink festive berries and stamped it on scratch paper before stamping on my tag (without reinking). i wanted a lighter shade of festive berries and more distressed look.
-on top of the red "bright", i stamped "bright" again in silver.
-then i added the rest of my sentiment in versafine onyx black.

-on the front of a solar white card, i secured my stencil again and used a ink blending tool to apply antique linen distress ink.

-then i assembled all of my pieces.
thanks so much!

carly
